Our first “A taste of the cottages” event was heralded a huge success by all who took part, hosts and visitors alike.

For those who couldn’t make it, this is a taster of what was on offer:

Jessica & Matthew: “Freshly baked home made sourdough and other breads with sweet and savoury dips”

Lynne joined by Miranda:  “It’s simply a Honey-Fest, Darling !”

Jill & David: David introduces you to a spicy Italian and Jill presents a Victorian trifle.

Linda & Bert: Blackpool-style Corned-Beef Hash, and meat & potato Pie – “A right northern treat!”

Anna & Margaret joined by Rosa: Jams, Marmalade, Baked goods and maybe something from the Allotment !

Verena & Fabrizio: “A slice of Scottish Border’s Bannock and bite of Puglian little ears”

Jenny & Sarah: Christmas Pudding (orders taken too !) and a selection of bottled goods

Shana & Family: Exciting Sweet Treats on a biscuit base !

AGM 2011

Please put Wednesday 29th June, 8pm at the Crooked Billet on Penge High Street in your diaries for the AGM of the Alexandra Residents Association.

This is your chance to thank all those who have helped over the last year and share your thoughts and ideas for the year to come.

Our guest speaker will be John Getgood, Councillor for Penge and Cator Ward.
We would like to do this section of the event largely in a question and answer form – so please send in your questions about council services in Penge and any other relevant concerns you think are likely to be of general interest to residents of the cottages.

The next Community Gardening Club gathering will be on Sunday 19th June from 11.00am to 12.00pm.

It would be fantastic to see you at the Edward Road planter next to the garages.

We will be adding rosemary plants to the herb garden planter, putting up a climbing frame for the climbing roses in the Edward Road bed and sowing more seeds and planting seedlings in the wildflower area next to the vets on Parish Lane

The ornamental herb garden in Princes Road is now well established.

Please do go along and help yourselves to herbs, remembering to leave plenty for the next person.
In the planter you will find fresh chives, parsley, marjoram, sage, thyme, mint and lavender. You can also use the young leaves of the nasturtiums to add a peppery edge to salads.

Thank you to everyone who had paid their £3 for a ticket; tickets will be distributed within the next seven days.
If you were out when we called and would like a ticket please put £3 in an envelope with your name and address, and leave at no. 131, Victor Road as soon as possible.

Please note it will not be possible to buy a ticket on the day.

Donations for the raffle very welcome at 131 Victor.

The 15 gardens that are open will be listed both on the reverse of your ticket and on a separate list on which owners have given a brief description.
Each open garden will display a fluorescent card in their garden with the OPEN GARDENS logo printed on it.
A special thank you to everyone opening their garden.

If you have any queries, please contact Shirley here.
